The Friends of Peter Ciaccia Golf Tournament Last year, Peter was planning on attending our first annual golf tournament, that plan changed when the opportunity for a bone marrow transplant was found and Peter was required to start the process necessary to be ready to accept the transplant. I know from speaking to Peter that he was deeply moved that so many people would come together in his honor. He told me how much he was looking forward to playing this year and we knew he would want us to keep it going. As many of you know, Peter battled Leukemia for 18 years. His condition worsened to a point where a bone marrow transplant was needed. Peter was fortunate that a match was found for him. Each year, over 30,000 people are diagnosed with conditions for which a bone marrow or blood stem cell transplant represents the possible life saving cure. Approximately 70% of those diagnosed lack a suitable donor within their own family and depend on volunteers who have agreed to be listed in the National Marrow Donor registry. This is where Peter’s donor was found. It is the selfless sacrifice that this stranger made for Peter that drives us to keep Peter’s spirit, energy and passion for life alive. All proceeds raised are placed in a fund at the Marrow Foundation in Peter’s name, which will be directed to fund future bone marrow drives to help other people who like Peter have valiantly battled this disease. See you on the course and thank you for your generosity.
